Last Friday, I went camping at Point Reyes with Eug Ahn, Steve Joo, and his friend Jeremy from Oberlin. I was looking forward to camping after a pretty uneventful summer. Here was a chance to enjoy the great outdoors, to see with my very own eyes the beauty of nature, except there was...

Fog. There was fog everywhere we looked. It was so thick that we couldn't see past 30 feet. The interesting thing about foggy days is that you really have no idea what time it is. The morning looks exactly the same as the afternoon, and you just lose track of time. Fog really is mysterious... It's like "Whoa, where am I?" and you start tripping out... Dude... Hahaha...

The fog finally dissipated by Saturday afternoon. We decided to move closer to the coast... But before moving campsites, we went to a local oyster farm, bought a dozen oysters, and grilled those suckers. I've never had oysters in my life, and the old Alex would not have even entertained the idea of dining on slimy, disgusting oysters... But because I'm trying to broaden my horizons, I gave it a shot... Not too bad... (A little salty for my taste, but I'd definitely eat them with some rice.) You only live once, right?

We had to hike about two miles to get to the new campsite... Two miles isn't too bad, but add a huge ice box filled with food and beverages, firewood, sleeping bags, etc. and let me tell you, it's a pain in the butt... Along the trail, I found something incredible... If you've watched the best movie ever made, Braveheart, you're familiar with the flower that Murron MacClannough gives William Wallace after his father's funeral (when they're children). When I caught a glimpse of these magical flowers, I knew that I had to keep one for myself. (For what, I don't know... Maybe I'll dry the flower and give it to some girl... But that would be really unoriginal, so maybe I won't...) As I tried to take possession of my trophy, I realized that the whole scene where Murron plucks the flower is bogus. Mere ordinary hands cannot pluck that prickly, spiny flower... Or...maybe she really did pluck it out, which makes that scene all the more powerful... Hahaha... Either way, I have the Braveheart flower.

Sunday morning, Eugene and I went to take a look at the amazing view of the ocean. It was blue, beautiful, breathtaking. I felt like I was in a movie... Like I was stranded on an island from which I never wanted to escape... And as I looked to my side, I saw the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with... Except it was Eugene Ahn, and he hadn't showered for the past two days... And then I laughed, and I realized that movies mess with my mind too much. I freakin' picked up a flower because it was from freakin' Braveheart!

Heh... I like camping.
